Filter Solution for Restaurant
This restaurant, located at the Avenue des Champs Elysées in Paris, is one of this company’s flagship restaurants, with global relevance due to the architecture and size of the restaurant, and to the exclusive location near famous sights in the city center of Paris. It is therefore essential that the restaurant takes care of its public image.
Secath Concept, an engineering company located in Paris, contacted AAF to assist in solving air filtration issues that the restaurant was having, especially problems with odour, as offices in the neighborhoods nearby were complaining about pungent odours from rancid cooking oil.
Challenges 1 – Grease and smoke problem
Challenges 2 – Complain by neighborhoods about odours
Challenges 3 – Improves gas-phase filtration
Instead of simply offering odour control gas-phase filters to Secath Concept, AAF filtration experts first did a comprehensive technical audit.
Key findings:
- The kitchen installation was in compliance with the applicable legal requirements
- The ventilation ducts needed to be cleaned
- The ventilator unit was not equipped with any filtration stage
It is not a revolutionary finding that the engineering consultants, together with AAF experts, agreed to recommend the installation of a multi-stage filtration system.
Besides the standard function of a filter system, namely to filter particles, this system needed the ability to filter gaseous contaminants responsible for the restaurant’s offending odours. To eliminate these odours, analysis determined that the chemical filtration stage of the system needed to filter nitrogen oxide (NO2), Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) and ozone (O3).
After taking all filtration and engineering issues into consideration, AAF recommended a three-stage filter system with four filters per stage.
Crucial to the design of the filter housing was the total weight of the unit, as it had to be installed on the rooftop of the building.
The selected VariSorb® XL filter effectively removes VOCs, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, and ozone. Moreover, the corrosion-free, non-metal, and lightweight construction of the filter, compared to filter canisters, helped to achieve the goal of the total weight of the filtration unit.
